Reclaiming Our Place with Courage & Pride
For too long, Cape York Black Rainbow Mob have been pushed to the sidelines. Our stories have been silenced, our voices have been ignored, and our identities have been questioned, within our own communities on our own lands. But the truth is simple. We have always belonged here, and just like everyone else our bloodline runs through the spirit of our Country too.
This movement is how we reclaim our space in community and on Country. We stand in our truth, boldly and with pride, reclaiming what colonisation tried to take. Before colonisation, our Old People and Ancestors understood the many ways identity can live and breathe through us. That wisdom was embedded within our Spirits, bodies, and cultures long before white western colonial ideas reshaped how Cape York Black Rainbow Mob are perceived in our communities today.
Now we are boldly stepping back into that truth, reclaiming the power of the sacred stories our Old People and Ancestors entrusted us with holding as we carry this magic and medicine forward for our bloodlines.
We were never the ‘Other’. We are the resistance and the medicine. We are home.
Where Every Story & Everybody Find Belonging Again.
This is a Black Rainbow Mob-led community connection-building project designed to strengthen connection, acceptance and belonging for Cape York Black Rainbow Mob. It began because we needed a space to come together without shrinking, without hiding, and without changing who we are to be accepted. We needed a space that is ours. A space to call home.
We are creating real and visible space for our Cape York Black Rainbow Mob.
Space in our bodies.
Space in our communities.
Space on our Country.
Here, we are seen.
Here, we are welcomed.
Here, we decide how we want to live.
This project is our declaration that we belong in our families, communities, and bodies, on our own lands. Nothing about us is new or out of place. We are simply stepping boldly into who we have always been: powerful, wise, ancient, vibrant, gifted, loving and DEADLY!

Your Story Belongs to You
Your story is your power. Your Spirit is your guide. Your voice is the medicine.
When you join this project, you choose how your story is held, heard and shared. Every image is created with you, not taken from you. Nothing is forced, nothing is framed through someone else’s idea of who you should be.
You have full autonomy in this process. It is time to take back the pen, rewrite the narrative, and reclaim your identity on your own terms, not through the lens of the ignorant and colonised, but through who you truly are.
You decide what you want to show.
You decide how you want to be represented.
You decide what this journey means to you.
We simply walk beside you with an open heart and mind, as you reclaim your narrative in your own way, in your own words.
Be part of this change. Share your story and help us show what it means to be home in the Cape.
All portraits taken will be put into a photography book. All profits generated from the book will be returned directly to everyone who had their portraits taken and personal narratives collected to build financial wellness and independence for Cape York Black Rainbow Mob. Some portraits will also feature in a touring art exhibition to raise more awareness about the book and generate more profit for Cape York Black Rainbow Mob.
Our Rainbow Bloodline Has Always Been Here
We are rebuilding our Cape York communities by honouring the people and identities that have been silenced. Cape York Black Rainbow Mob have always existed in our communities and cultures. Our colourful vibrancy lived in ceremony, in kinship, in story, in language and in the ways our Ancestors and Old People understood connection to Country, body and Spirit.
Before colonisation, our people knew this truth.
After colonisation came rejection, exclusion, silence, violence and shame.
Now we are reclaiming this truth and history — through courage, pride, connection, respect and love.
This is our time to rise. This is our time to shine. This is our time to be celebrated. This is our Cape York Black Rainbow Homecoming.
