The first photographic & narrative celebration of Cape York First Nations LGBTQIA+SB peoples that challenges existing dehumanising violent colonial queerphobic stereotypes, offering justice to the richness, wellbeing, diversity and lived experiences of Cape York Black Rainbow mob. It is time to welcome the unwelcome home: Land back, bodies back.
This is a multi year First Nations LGBTQIA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy Human rights photography grassroots project based in the Cape York Peninsula of remote Far North Queensland, Australia. This project is led by international Human rights Lawyer, First Nations LGBTQIA+ Scholar and Photographer, Marijke Bassani who is a Lama Lama/Lamalama, Binthi Warra (Guugu Yimithirr Nation) and Bulgun Warra woman raised on the east coast lands of her people in Cape York. This project will involve Marijke taking portraits and collecting contemporary personal narratives about culture and community from Cape York First Nations LGBTQIA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy peoples for collation into a photography book. All proceeds generated from the book will be returned directly to all those who featured in it to build financial wellness and autonomy for Cape York Black Rainbow mob.

We acknowledge the sovereignty and ancient (kin)nection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their lands, skies and seas. We honour and pay our respects to Elders, Ancestors, Knowledge Holders and Keepers, existing and emerging Leaders. Sovereignty over our lands, spirits and bodies was never ceded and continues today.
